WELCOME TO CAVE CREEK & CAREFREE
Cave Creek and Carefree are adjacent towns about 30 miles north of Arizona’s capital city, Phoenix. Both towns are located on the foothills of the 5,587-foot high Black Mountain that serves as their natural boundary.
Western-style town
Cave Creek is more of a Western-style town matching the lifestyle of cowboys and bikers. On the other hand, Carefree takes the mold of an old, quiet place that suits wealthy retirees.
The spirit of the Wild West is alive and kicking in Cave Creek, particularly in its dining and fun places. For this experience, one must-visit is the restaurant, Harold’s, with dancing and live bands besides its culinary delights. Another popular choice is the Buffalo Chip Saloon and Steakhouse featuring live music, dancing, and bull riding!
Buffalo Chip shares its Cave Creek main road location with Western-themed stores, specialty shops, and art galleries. Many of these commercial establishments, which also include several restaurants, are located in the Stagecoach Village shopping and dining district.
Scenic golf links
For another one-stop destination of Cave Creek’s major attractions, visit the resort Rancho Mañana. Its award-winning restaurant Tonto Bar & Grill is but one of its top draws. It also features a spa and a golf course that was voted as one of the most scenic in Arizona.
Besides the 18-hole Rancho Mañana links, there are four other golf courses in the Cave Creek–Carefree area. These are the Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club, Tatum Ranch Golf Club, Cave Creek Golf Course, and the Desert Forest Golf Course.

Additionally, the downtown takes pride in its desert oasis, the tour-friendly Carefree Desert Gardens. Besides its amazing desert plant specimens, the Gardens also has the bragging rights for having the largest sundial in the U.S.
